Resources on Adolescent Literacy
Reading Next

Jamestown Reading Navigator is based on the latest research in adolescent literacy. It is aligned with the finding of the Reading Next report from the Alliance for Excellent Education.
What is Reading Next?
While NCLB's Reading First initiative and the recommendations of the National Reading Panel have come to define effective instructional practices for K-3, it is not until recently that attention has turned to the special needs of adolescent readers. Reading Next: A Vision for Action and Research in Middle and High School Literacy was developed by the Alliance for Excellent Education and the Carnegie Corporation of New York to define effective literacy instruction for adolescent students. The report outlines 15 essential elements that must be addressed in an effective literacy program for middle and high school students. Released in late 2004, the report represents the very latest research in adolescent literacy.
