- Overview and Implementation of Jamestown Reading Navigator
- Teachers, supervisors, and/or administrators will be given an overview of the levels and features within the levels of the online instructional component, of the print components, and of the teacher support materials. Different instructional models and classroom management techniques will also be explored.
- Meeting State Academic Standards
- Teachers, supervisors, and/or administrators will review components of Jamestown Reading Navigator and correlate those to state standards with particular attention on those standards covered in state assessments.
- Creating Focused Action Plans for Further Study
- Based on evaluation of classroom practices, instruction, and student achievement, educators will identify areas of need, generate focus questions for those areas, develop goals, and design a goal-oriented action plan for a learning community.
- Creating a School-Oriented Literacy Plan
- Using data from state, district, and Jamestown Reading Navigator assessments, Jamestown Reading Navigator consultants will work with site-based educators to develop a school-wide literacy plan or will provide support for implementing existing reading or school improvement plans.
- Coaching and Scoring with Jamestown Reading Navigator
- In this session literacy coaches will learn ways to help their teachers integrate best literacy practices and current research with Jamestown Reading Navigator.
- Action Research on Adolescent Literacy
- Interested educators will use a process approach to identify key areas for classroom research. Educators will form study groups to gather formal and informal classroom data, to review classroom research, and to develop a plan to implement those findings into classroom practices.
- Using Reading as a Process to Teach Content Area
- Content Area teachers will learn strategies for presenting subject area texts so that their students use reading as a tool for learning and mastering content area standards.
- Creating a School Literacy Team
- Jamestown Reading Navigator teachers, administrators, literacy coaches, librarians, teachers of special populations, and content area leaders, develop school-wide plans for creating a comprehensive and coordinated literacy program.
