Meeting Diverse Needs
Teachers will discuss the needs of special populations. They will then examine how JRN differentiates instruction within the program to meet those needs. Additional ways instruction can be differentiated to meet diverse needs will also be modeled.
Using Assessment Data and Reports to Inform Classroom Instruction
Teachers will become familiar with the formative and summative assessments built into Jamestown Reading Navigator and learn how to use the data generated from Jamestown Reading Navigator reports to modify instruction to provide strategic tutoring.
Parent and Community Awareness Sessions
Parents, tutors, and interested community members will be shown how to support students as they access Jamestown Reading Navigator's on-line instruction at home, in public libraries, or other sites outside of the classroom. Suggestions for supporting literacy at home and in the community will also be covered.
Best Practices – Effective Teaching Strategies for Adolescent Literacy
Teachers will learn how to integrate best literacy practice with Jamestown Reading Navigator such as guided reading, strategic tutoring, flexible grouping, and text-based collaboration in Jamestown Reading Navigator. The practices explored can be customized based on the school's or district's initiatives.
Peer Coaching for Success
In this session teachers of Jamestown Reading Navigator will learn to use peer coaching skills to enhance the effectiveness of Jamestown Reading Navigator.
State Testing Success: Preparation and Practice
Teachers will learn how to use Jamestown Reading Navigator to foster success on state assessments.
Author Series
Using the white papers and/or videos of authors of Jamestown Reading Navigator, teachers will examine how Jamestown Reading Navigator addresses the special needs of adolescent literacy.
